Species Guide
Starfish Pups are a species that closely resembles a mix between a cushion starfish and the domesticated dog, in both appearance and behavior.
They reside only in saltwater or in the mouths of estuaries; however, Starfish Pups do very well in captivity and can be kept in saltwater aquariums as pets.
Eyes
Normally, Starfish Pups have their eyes closed because their sense of smell is much better than their vision.
When they feel threatened, they will open their eyes and 'stare' at the threat to intimidate them.
This, unfortunately, ends up making them look even more cute and adorable.
Defense
When their 'stare' doesn't work, they may resort to using their high-pitched 'barking' which sounds more like a squeaky toy.Probably the most threatening part of a Starfish Pup is their extremely sharp tiny teeth. They can easily break skin, but rarely turn to biting for defense. They will only do so as a last resort if they really feel their life is in danger.
Or if you take away their food.
Features
A Starfish Pup's features closely resemble those in domestic canines. Their ears and tails can come in many different forms, but they should always be canine-like in appearance.
Features resembling non-canine species are very rare.
Ears
floppy
perky
long
half-flopped
etc
Tails
long
short
'stubby'
curly
etc
Long Fur
Ears, cheeks, and tails can have longer fur. This is more common in Starfish Pups that reside in cold climates.
Pawpads
They have fleshy areas on the ends of their arms that resemble pawpads. These are used to grab onto hard surfaces.
The backs of Starfish Pups resemble that of a cushion starfish. They are covered in tiny bumps and the skin is a bit thicker than on their stomachs.
No hair grows on their back!
Their stomachs, on the other hand, are very soft and velvety. It's their most vulnerable spot, but if they trust you then tummy rubs are welcome.
Size
Starfish Pups can range in size, but are normally very small. Their most common size is between 3"-6". They can get as large as a small dog, or around 1' tall.
Males are usually bigger, but large females are not unheard of. Because of their relation to the starfish, genderless Starfish Pups are also common.
Injuries
Just like starfish, if a Starfish Pup loses a limb they will grow it back within a short amount of time.
In some instances if severe damage occurs, the growth might take a very long time or the limb may not grow back at all.
Rare Starfish Pups
It is very rare, but there exist some Starfish Pups that are genetic anomalies and have bodies and features very different from the common Starfish Pup.These rarities may have bodies that resemble other starfish species, ears/tails that are non-canine in appearance, eyes that are always open, long snouts, etc.
Some believe that these mutations are evidence of an evolving species, but there are so few examples that not much is known about them.

Rules
Starfish Pups are a closed species. This means that you cannot make your own without first purchasing a MYO slot or with explicate permission from one of the species owners (PeachTabby, Colonel, or Toucat)
If you own a Starfish Pup, please try to keep their features/etc within the species cannon. They don't have many strict guidelines, but for example do not make your Starfish Pup 20ft tall since that would be an illegal trait and Starfish Pups would not get that big (normally).
If you purchase a MYO slot, they can be resold for no more than you purchased them for. There are no limits for trades for existing characters/art, however.
If you purchase a Starfish Pup from a sale, do not resell for more than you purchased them for unless they come with additional art.
Do not make drastic changes to a design without getting them approved
MYO designs must be submitted for approval before they can be publicly posted and used.
Please try to contact PeachTabby either directly or through the site's Contact form to change ownership of a Starfish Pup or MYO slot.
